Rainbow Services workshop in Harlow offers placements for offenders on Community Payback.

The workshop uses donated and reclaimed wood to create items for sale such as bird tables, planters and furniture.

One offender wrote to tell about his positive experience there…

“Between 3rd May and 6th June 2014, I completed 100 hours of unpaid work at the Rainbow Services Workshop, as instructed by the Probation Service.

“I was initially apprehensive about the unknown nature of the work I would be required to do and the environment. However, it quickly became apparent that under the supervision of JS the workshop was professionally run and provided opportunities for anyone willing to take them.

“Personally, I learned several new skills (and polished up some that had been rusty since school-days). Also, the experience provided everyone with a realistic view of the disciplines required in the world of work, in terms of personal attitude and relationships with others.

“Though the atmosphere was generally relaxed, John Shaves left no doubt about the dangers of taking advantage. He showed an ability to help and encouraged everyone to do the best they could, with direct instruction and individual advice. Overall, I have had a positive experience.”
