Probation at the sharp end says Shadow Minister Jenny Chapman on Colchester visit:

Darlington MP and Shadow Minister for Prisons and Probation Jenny Chapman paid a fact-finding visit to Essex Probation’s Colchester office recently. Colchester Councillor Tim Young invited Jenny to come and see Probation’s work at close quarters, and meet some of the seventy staff based at Colchester, who are working with offenders from across North-East Essex.

“We are very happy to show our legislators the work we are doing, which covers a very wide span of offenders and offences these days,” said Mary Archer, Essex Probation’s Chief Executive. “Essex Probation has a reputation for delivering the goods, and we’re proud of our success with offenders. It has been a pleasure to welcome Jenny to Colchester for the day.”

Jenny Chapman said “Essex Probation are doing a great job keeping the community safe. The work that Probation staff undertake goes too often unnoticed, but they really are at the sharp end of the Criminal Justice System. “It is important that I find out first-hand, away from the Westminster bubble, how government can help prevent reoffending.”

Jenny Chapman was elected to the Darlington seat in 2010 and has herself worked as a Prison Psychologist.

Names left to right are Cllr. Tim Young, Jenny Chapman, Gill Hirst, Director of Probation and Mary Archer OBE, Essex Probation Chief Executive.
